Collaborative Research Spotlight: Breaking Barriers in Antibiotic Resistance
We are proud to announce that the groundbreaking research of Helena Arellano, in collaboration with the University of Lille laboratories (UCCS, INRAe, IEMN), has been recently recognized by the Institute Laue Langevin (ILL). The publication, titled “Influence of Critical Micelle Concentration of Choline-Based Long Chain Fatty Acid Soaps on Their Antibacterial Activity Against Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus,” highlights a significant advancement in the fight against antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
The study focuses on the synthesis of LCFA-choline solutions and the quantitative testing of their effectiveness against Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), a major public health concern. Through the collaboration with ILL, researchers were able to refine the development process and perform detailed analyses of the antibacterial properties of these compounds.
This recognition underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in advancing scientific knowledge and finding innovative solutions to global challenges such as antibiotic resistance.

First paper from IRACM !
As a result of the hard work of the student Helena Arellano, in collaboration with the laboratories INRAe, IEMN and UCCS, the first article of the Master has been published. The paper is entitled “Saturated long chain fatty acids as possible natural alternative antibacterial agents: Opportunities and challenges” is available in: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.cis.2023.102952
We hope this is just the beginning of a very successful research career ! ✨
We also look forward to seeing each and every one of our students succeed. ✨🤗

Participation in Master’s Day
On May 31, 2023, the Master’s Day organized by the “Societé Chimique de France” was held at the IUT de Lille, with the participation of students from various M2 of the Université de Lille. At this event, the students had the opportunity to present the work they have done during their internships.
In addition, an award was given to the best presentations, where our students Asmma Khalil and Helena Arellano won first and second place, respectively. Congratulations to all for their valuable participation!
